What's new at ClearPoint.

ClearPoint People: Meet Jonathan Ackerman, Solutions Architect and seriously good problem-solver.

Meet Jonathan Ackerman: Jonathan has been with ClearPoint for three and a half years but has been working with the directors of ClearPoint for about ten years. He’s one of the technology gurus at ClearPoint and thrives on solving problems that others simply can’t crack. As we found from speaking to him, technology is practically part of his DNA.

What do you do at ClearPoint?

My title is Solutions Architect but I’m more of a jack of all trades with a strong focus on architecture. I’m often a Team Lead on software development teams but I still do the software development too because I like to keep my hand in there. I do a lot of facilitation of Agile software development projects with clients.

Are you a technology man through and through?

You could say that. This is my 20th year of commercial software development and my 32nd year of computer programming. I studied computer science and civil engineering at school and information technology at university. I code in my spare time and create computer games when I’m not spending time with my two young kids.

Do you love what you do?

I do. It’s really interesting, it pays well and it’s always changing. Technology doesn’t stand still. There’s always a new way of doing things. And more than that, information technology is one of the few industries nowadays that touches every single other industry.

Why ClearPoint?

Fantastic people work here and good people attract more good people. I like the philosophy of ClearPoint too. It’s not particularly aligned to any vendor or product. That means we can sit down with the customer and figure out what’s best for them instead of saying, “Hey, have we got a product deal for you…” That philosophy means we get engaged by clients for the long-term. We become trusted advisors and get involved in a lot of big picture stuff.

Tell us something we probably don’t know…

I started coding when I was seven. Dad brought home a Commodore Vic 20, which was one of the first micro-computers with colour and sound. There was a programming manual that came with it. The first programme got the word “Hello” to scroll across the screen. The second programme scrolled the word “Hello” across the screen in a swirling pattern. I was hooked.
