Thanks to Mike Barker presenting at our first TechDrop of the year. An industry colleague for some time now, Mike is the current maintainer of the Disruptor project (http://lmax-exchange.github.com/disruptor/) a high performance alternative to the queues provided in the Java standard libraries.
Mike’s walk through of high performance programming was insightful, interesting and illustrated the trade-offs and the practical implications of software design decisions.
